Need a doctor, hospital or pharmacy while visiting Dubrovnik? This guide covers the most useful medical services for travellers, including emergency numbers, Dubrovnik General Hospital, the seasonal Tourist Medical Clinic, private clinics and the current on-call pharmacy.
For a serious or life-threatening emergency, call 112 or 194. For less urgent problems, Dubrovnik has public healthcare services, private clinics and pharmacies across the city.

First-hand note
When guests staying with me needed an ambulance because of a sudden health problem, the response was very quick and the medical staff were helpful. The hospital building itself is older and can feel dated, but in my experience the urgent care was handled professionally.
Dubrovnik General Hospital
Dubrovnik General Hospital (Opća bolnica Dubrovnik) is the main public hospital serving Dubrovnik and the surrounding region. Its unified emergency department operates 24 hours a day, every day.
Patients may arrive by emergency medical transport or go directly to the emergency department without a referral when urgent help is required.
- Address: Dr. Roka Mišetića 2, 20000 Dubrovnik
- Main switchboard: +385 20 431 777
- Emergency department: open 24/7
Official website: Dubrovnik General Hospital
Dubrovnik Health Centre
Dom zdravlja Dubrovnik provides family medicine and other community healthcare services. It is a more appropriate starting point than the hospital emergency department for many non-emergency health problems.
- Address: Dr. Ante Starčevića 1, Dubrovnik
- Main contact: +385 20 641 610
Individual departments and surgeries have their own schedules, so check the official Dubrovnik Health Centre website before visiting.
Tourist Medical Clinic in Dubrovnik Old Town
Dubrovnik operates additional healthcare services for tourists during the main travel season. In 2026, the Tourist Medical Clinic in the Old Town operates from Androvićeva, with telephone number +385 20 641 676.
The Dubrovnik Tourist Board's current 2026 medical-services information lists the Old Town tourist clinic as operating from 1 July, with the following published schedule:
- Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 08:00-15:30
- Tuesday and Thursday: 12:00-19:30
- First and third Saturday of the month: 08:00-12:00
Because the tourist clinic is seasonal and schedules can change, check the current Dubrovnik Tourist Board medical-services page before relying on these hours.
Private clinics in Dubrovnik
Private clinics are another option for non-emergency consultations, examinations and specialist care. Private treatment is generally paid directly or handled through private travel or health insurance, depending on your policy.
Polyclinic Marin Med
Marin Med is a private medical centre at Dr. Ante Starčevića 45, near the Gruž area. It provides a broad range of specialist medical and diagnostic services.
- Address: Dr. Ante Starčevića 45
- Telephone: +385 20 400 500
- Current clinic hours: Monday-Friday 08:00-20:00

Polyclinic Glavić
Polyclinic Glavić is located in Babin Kuk and offers specialist consultations, rehabilitation, diagnostics and other medical services.
- Address: Ćira Carića 3
- Telephone: +385 20 435 565
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 07:00-15:00
- Wednesday: 07:00-19:00
Official website: Polyclinic Glavić
First-hand note
In my experience with private clinics in Dubrovnik, the level of care has been very good. If you plan to use a private clinic, check your insurance policy first because private treatment is not covered in the same way as treatment through Croatia's public healthcare system.
Using an EHIC or GHIC in Croatia
Visitors covered by a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) can receive medically necessary state healthcare in Croatia under the same conditions as people insured through the Croatian public system. This means that normal Croatian co-payments may still apply.
Visitors from the UK can use a valid GHIC or eligible EHIC for medically necessary state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in Croatia.
EHIC and GHIC are not substitutes for travel insurance. They do not normally cover private healthcare, repatriation, changes to travel arrangements or other costs outside the public healthcare system.
For official information, see the Croatian Health Insurance Fund EHIC guidance. UK travellers can also check the UK government Croatia health advice.
Pharmacies in Dubrovnik
Pharmacies are called ljekarne in Croatian and are available throughout Dubrovnik. They are a useful first stop for minor complaints and over-the-counter medicines.
For prescription-only medicines, ask the pharmacist what documentation is required. Depending on the medicine and your prescription, you may need to see a doctor in Croatia before it can be dispensed.
Which pharmacy is on duty tonight?
Dubrovnik uses a rotating duty-pharmacy system. The official Ljekarna Dubrovnik website shows the pharmacy currently on duty and publishes the latest rota.

The duty rota changes during the year. Use the official pharmacy website rather than an old saved monthly PDF.
The official July-September 2026 rota alternates night duty between Kod zvonika in the Old Town and Gruž. Day duty runs from 07:00-20:00 and night duty from 20:00-07:00 the following morning.
