Title: Trip Recommendation?

Hello, I am coming to Dubrovnik on Friday for 1 week and was wondering what the best way to spend the week would be. I was told I should go to Hvar for a coule of days but does this mean you have to sit on a bus for hours on end?

Would I be better renting a car? If I do rent a car are the roads good or bad?

A lot of questions I know but any help would be appreciated.

Hvar is an island so you can count on a boat trip  :)
