Hi Guys,
We too are exploring the idea of getting married over in Dubrovnik in late summer time 2006 (a little while off yet) ..... however we are quite clueless as to how everything actually works!
What is the general procedure for foreigners marrying over there ie. Can we have a church wedding? Do we need a seperate blessing? Will it be a fully 'lawful' weeding? .... sorry for the ignorance but we don't really know where to start!!

Also ... is there any information available about Churches/Chapels that would carry out a wedding service??

I'd reallyappreciate some good advice, and really good luck with the weddings.

It's quite difficult to find information regarding wedding venue's in debrovnik, especially if your clueless......

have you tried venues in bognar??it's alot easier to find??

thanks for the tip! You are right, that lady Nina is really good. We have send her a simple request and we received a detailed list of all venues (and pictures of each venue). She included technical details of the venues which makes it all so much easier to understand. There are so many beautiful places to get married in Dubrovnik. Unbelievable.
You did not mention it, but the company name is Dubrovnik Riviera weddings. We are taking a civil ceremony package on location because we would like to have the ceremony on a boat. But we thought to arrange the dinner afterwards ourselves. I understand they are ok with that. Did you take a package too? Did you take other services through her?
It is all very affordable, so I might have some extra cash left to splash out at the casino!! Dubrovnik, here we come!!!!

Hi all,

we would like to have our wedding in Dubrovnik, in june 06. We visited the town a few weeks ago and it is really fantastic. The first 4 days we did nothing else then searching for the suppliers but is was not al all easy. We want a wedding on an island beach so that involves much more organisation. At the end my fiance got fed up with all the hassle and we decided to meet with the wedding planner from Dubrovnik Riv. weddings. (Gloria sounded very uninterested) After one meeting we new all we needed. How easy that was! She is very kind and comes accross as very helpfull and professional. We almost immediately felt at ease with her. She brought us to see several suppliers and arranged meetings at venues for us. In the evening she showed us two live bands and one was exactly what we need. It saved us a lot of time. After seeing her prices we decided to let her do all the work, as of now, we are going to relax.
We have chosen a beach wedding at an island followed by a boat reception and a dinner party at the beach club.  I have a feeling it will be great.

From reading above, Zeljana works for the Dubrovnik Palace Hotel, and I don't really want to be tied to one spot.  I have most of my venue's picked out, but there is a few little bits I am having trouble with.  I would like to get in touch with Nina and see if she can help me.

we are in contact with her at the moment. Her mail is ninabs64@yahoo.com. We also have a good idea of the venue and other services, but we need someone to coordinate everything and we needed good advice on photographers and music. Friends of ours got married in Dub, they did everything themselves but many things went wrong on the wedding day (photographer was late, menu was not as agreed, they had to stop playing loud music beause they did not have a permit for that...). Surely there will be many flaws on our wedding day as well, but we want someone else dealing with that.
Her help has been great, she will be coordinating our wedding day. You can see some of her prices on the forum called zeljana service. But if you do not like a package, like us, you can agree with her who will organise which services.  We will have our wedding reception at the Rectors Palace and dinner at a beach venue.

We have been working with Jelena at Travelhouse for the past few months now, and have found this company to be very prompt with their responses and helpful in assisting us with the wedding.  We have scheduled the ceremony to take place in Opatija (Northern coastal area) at the Villa Ariston.  The pictures look beautiful, although we have never been to this region.  Is anyone familiar with this particular area?  If anyone would like further information regarding Travelhouse, I can certainly provide this.  Otherwise, I will be sure to post how the wedding ceremony turns out this October.

Any Americans out there who have gotten married in Croatia, and managed to organize it from the U.S.?  I want to get married in Dubrovnik, but I understand you need affidavits from the U.S. embassy in Zagreb stating that you are free to marry, then those affidavits need to be authenticated by the foreign ministry in Zagreb.  How does one go about getting this done ahead of time . . . without a separate trip to Zagreb, some time in advance?  As of right now, we're planning on gettiing these docs the day before we head to Dubrovnik . . . but obviously that's not ideal!

I don't understand what is so hard to understand about zeljana. She is the banquet manager for dubrovnik palace hotel and organizes weddings (and other events) held there - reception, service, decoration, transport, NOT wedding ceremonies. She is not a wedding coordinator, but a banquet manager. Where is the confusion?
ps. I am having my wedding at the palace, and zeljana has been amazing at helping with the organization of the reception. I have a separate wedding planner, however.

We are a couple from the Uk who are planning to get married in Croatia. Can any of the people from the Uk or Ireland on this forum tell us how they went about sorting out their documents/which website they used. We are not going to use a wedding planner so are interested in finding out information from people who sorted out their documetns through the British/Irish embassy in Zagreb. We especially want to know how the living in the country for 21 days policy operates, as on the British embassy website it says you have to, but on this forum people have said you do not have to.....

For anyone in Ireland who wants to get married in Dubrovnik,  there is a travel agency in Dublin called Croatia Tours who assist with organising weddings in Dubrovnik.  They helped organise Anne Cassin's (newsreader on RTE) a couple of years ago!!  We went to Dubrovnik at Easter with them & met their rep over there.  She was very nice & showed us a couple of restaurants, St. Blaises' Church, the florist & samples from their photographer.  They have an admin fee of about €300 and so far have been very helpful & friendly.  They have told us precisely what paperwork we need, when we need it and what we need to do with it when we get it and they organise an English speaking priest.  They have told us that we need to be in Dubrovnik for 4 days prior to getting married and that it will be much easier for us if we have our Civil Service here in Ireland (about 4/6 weeks) before the wedding.  We are just waiting for confirmation from the Labirint Restaurant for our reception before we book our flights and accom for June 2006.  Has anyone had any experience with the Labirint Restaurant as a venue for their reception?  We had a meal there at Easter & it was beautiful.  The restaurant has a terrace overlooking the marina and a night club which opens til 4/5am and is literally 5 minutes from St. Blaise's Church & the Irish pub so it seems ideal for us!!

I hope this is of some assistance to some of you & I would really appreciate any feedback concerniing the Labirint Restaurant.

My husband and I are also American citizens and were just married in Northern Croatia 2 weeks ago.  As I understand, you must appear at the U.S. Embassy and the Foreign Ministry in person to obtain these documents.  Please keep in mind that the Embassy stops American citizen services at 3:30pm and the Ministry only operates these services from 9:00am to noon.  I suggest you get this paperwork done in Zagreb and take a quick flight down to Dubrovnik to relax for your wedding.  If you do not have a wedding coordinator yet, we used Jelena from www.travelhouse.hr and she was wonderful at helping us with paperwork and planning the wedding.  Good luck.

Can anyone tell me more about Labirint. Dermot what prices are you getting and for how many people.

gh, we were quoted €60 per person based on approx 70 people.  We're not 100% sure if we'll go ahead with the Labirint as the menu we received is only ok - about 6 fish dishes on it (I know Dubrovnik is by the sea but neither of us are huge fish eaters!!).  They didn't indicate whether this price included any drinks, but I doubt it.  The agency we are using are not sure if they will allow us to change/substitute some of choices so we are investigating an alternative venue, through a friend of a friend.  She got married last year in Dubrovnik (her brother is getting married there next year and is using the same restaurant) but we dont know the name of the restaurant. When I find out I'll let you know!
